A Holistic Approach to Skin Care: How to Get Rid of Acne by looking deeper

How to Get Rid of Acne

If you’re one of the millions that struggle with acne, you know how frustrating it can be to find a solution that works for your unique skin. While there’s no overnight cure, there are proven methods that can help banish breakouts and get your skin feeling and looking its best and I’m going to share what I have found with you in this article.

First: Establish a consistent skin care routine

The first thing you need to do, and probably the most difficult for most of us, is to establish a good routine.
Step 1: Start by gently cleansing your face in the morning when you wake up. You’re already in a daily routine of brushing your teeth, so just piggyback onto that! Use a non-comedogenic cleanser to remove excess oil, dirt, and dead skin cells without stripping your skin. Non-comedogenic just means that it won’t clog your pores, any of our vegan cold process soaps will be perfect for this. Two we recommend are Tea Mint and Charcoal since both of these have activated charcoal in them and were designed for troubled skin. Charcoal is the more potent bar and works best for reducing acne and blackheads. This is because of the blend of essential oils, epsom salt (which break down dirt and excess oil), and activated charcoal (which escorts those particles down the drain).

Step 2: Apply a toner that has ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These help dry out existing pimples and keep pores clear of debris which allows bacteria to multiply. Using a cotton ball in a circular motion works excellently!

Step 3: You’ll want to use a moisturizer, even if you have oily complexion, to hydrate your skin. When skin is hydrated and healthy it can better defend itself against bacteria! So, again, you’ll want a non-comedogenic moisturizer. Our Lotions are great for this when applied to freshly cleansed skin, just pick your favorite essential oil blend. We recommend the Mint Condition which has peppermint for a cooling effect.

Step 4: Exfoliate 1-2 times a week. This is important because you need to slough off dead skin cells so that your products can properly penetrate the skin. We recommend our Sugar Scrub for this which exfoliates in two ways. Sugar granules help scrape off dead skin cells on the surface while naturally occurring glycolic acid helps by loosening the bonds between dead skin cells. As an added bonus it also stimulates collagen production and acts as a humectant, attracting moisture to the skin. Glycolic acid naturally occurs in cane sugar!

Second: Lifestyle and Diet Adjustments

Your skin is basically a report of your internal health of your hormones, gut, and lymphatic systems. In other words, if you’re breaking out it is because something on the inside is off balance so finding and fixing that will get rid of the acne! This can be a difficult task but I’m going to give you three things to look at for a starting off point.

First look at where you’re breaking out. I wrote an article about Acne Face Mapping which you can read here. Discovering the root cause of your acne will help you determine what you need to adjust in your lifestyle or diet to correct and bring balance back to your body. Sometimes its a matter of simply drinking enough water, reducing stress, and getting the right amount of sleep, which in this day and age is not as easy as it should be, but you can do it if you take the time to really take care of yourself. You deserve it and everyone who loves you wants you to take that time, so take it.

Another step you can take is limiting or eliminating dairy, processed sugars, high-carb foods, and caffeine for a time to see if you notice a difference in your skin. Some of these foods could be triggering breakouts.

Third: Seek out a Naturopath

In my journey on this earth, I have learned that traditional medicine is not the answer. Often times, doctors are not knowledgeable when it comes to finding a root cause, they just want to give you short term solutions. So, if you’re taking my advice, go see a naturopath or someone who specializes in alternative medicine practices. Your best bet is to find someone who does ZYTO Biocommunication Scans and naturopathic medicine. Using the ZYTO machine gives you the truest report of what is going on inside your body and what to do to fix it. If you live in Louisiana, go see Dr. Kami at the Health & Counseling Center.

All in all, getting rid of acne will take some time, but if you get started today with the simple skin care routine outlined above, you will be on your way to finding your solution. You skin turns over a new layer every 6-8 weeks, so with consistency, the right combination of routine and lifestyle changes will help you get clear skin and a healthy body!
