(And they're all in our Spring products!)
Hey there!
So I've been absolutely NERDING OUT about herbs lately, and I just had to share some of the incredible plants I've been working with. These aren't your basic rosemary and thyme - I'm talking about some seriously powerful botanicals that traditional herbalists have treasured forever!
HIBISCUS: NOT JUST A PRETTY FLOWER!
Y'all, hibiscus is SO much more than just a beautiful tropical flower. It's actually nature's gentle exfoliator! It contains natural alpha-hydroxy acids that help dissolve dead skin cells without any of that harsh, burning sensation you get from those intense chemical exfoliants.
What I love about hibiscus:
- It exfoliates SO gently - perfect if you have sensitive skin like me
- It's packed with antioxidants that protect your skin from environmental yuckiness
- It has this amazing natural mucilage (fancy word for plant gel) that helps your skin stay hydrated
I literally cannot get enough of this plant. It's genuinely incredible for spring when we're all trying to get rid of winter dullness!
BURDOCK ROOT: THE UNSUNG HERO
Okay, burdock root doesn't get NEARLY enough attention in the skincare world. This root has been used in traditional medicine for centuries as a blood purifier, and it does amazing things for skin too:
- It's loaded with iron, magnesium, and vitamin E (like a multivitamin for your face!)
- It has these compounds called arctiin and arctigenin that are super detoxifying
- It helps balance your skin's microbiome (all the good bacteria that keep your skin happy)
I've been slow-infusing burdock root in my oils for MONTHS now, and the results are honestly amazing. It's especially great if your skin tends to get congested during seasonal changes.
WHITE WILLOW BARK: THE OG SALICYLIC ACID
Did you know that before there was synthetic salicylic acid (the stuff in most acne products), people used white willow bark? It's literally where aspirin originally came from!
What makes it so special:
- It naturally contains salicin, which your skin converts to salicylic acid
- It exfoliates and clears pores but is WAY gentler than the synthetic stuff
- It comes with built-in anti-inflammatory compounds that calm redness
I'm kind of obsessed with using traditional plant ingredients instead of isolated synthetic versions. Your skin can tell the difference - trust me!
THE PATIENCE PROCESS
Here's something cool about how I make our products: instead of using quick extraction methods that use heat or chemicals, I actually infuse these herbs in oils for 6+ MONTHS. I'm not even kidding!
I literally put the dried herbs in jars with oil and wait... and wait... and wait some more. It's the slowest process ever, but it lets all the beneficial compounds from the plants transfer to the oil without destroying any of their goodness.
It's like the difference between slow-cooked bone broth vs. a bouillon cube. Both are technically "broth" but we all know which one actually nourishes your body better!
WANT TO EXPERIENCE THESE HERBS?
If you're curious about what these amazing botanicals can do for your skin, they're all infused in our Spring Renewal Facial Serum and Hot Compress Facial Mask. Each herb was chosen specifically to support your skin during the winter-to-spring transition, and they've been slowly infused for over 6 months (not rushed at all!).
I'd seriously love to know which of these herbs sounds most interesting to you! Just hit reply and let me know - I love geeking out about this stuff with fellow plant enthusiasts!
Stay amazing,
Kelsey
P.S. I just posted a more detailed breakdown of all these herbs on the blog if you want to really dive deep into plant nerdery with me! [Read more here]
